The original conception of DJ Apt One's Michael The Lion project was as a continuous LP of sample-driven, instrument rich disco tunes. Although the project turned into a persona and the LP evolved into 5 years of singles, EPs, edits and collaborations - the original demo version of the project is worth a listen. Not only is it a long-form piece in an increasingly short-form world, but it's a window into the past of Michael's catalog. It's full of alternate versions of now-well-known tunes (including a post-punk style version of Funk Train featuring Amy Douglas) and tracks that are only now coming to light (Hear What I Say featuring Shyvonne). The cassette also features numerous unreleased songs and sketches, including a tribute to the infamous Tunnel Vision rave of Michael's youth in Pittsburgh, PA.
